Meet LEAP Students

Michael Brazier,
2nd Semester,Organziational Management Student:

I am coming back into school for my second go around and I’m more mature now. The students are pretty much working adults with families, so we have similar experiences. The instructors treat us as adults and they realize that we have a life outside of school. All the instructors have been thorough, pleasant to deal with, and yet at the same time strict—in a positive way. It has not been easy, but it has been an enjoyable experience.

Actually, it has been a blessing in my life to be here at Oakwood University. The Christian component is what drew me here. Everybody that I talked to at Oakwood was friendly and welcoming compared to other schools.

It has been very rewarding to get back into the learning mode. I find it challenging and enjoyable at the same time.

I have met some people in this program that I consider dear friends, and I’m sure I will continue lifelong friendship with them.

I like the fact that you start as a group and go through each class as a group. It is relaxing and easy to work with everyone in the class. We are able to lean on each other for guidance and assistance.

The time has flown; it is hard to believe we are halfway through! I actually like it better just going from one course to the next, without long breaks. The long breaks make it harder to get back into it. I also like having only one class at a time, especially with having to work all day and juggle family life.

Vickie Jones
Final Semester Organizational Management Student:

The time passes extremely fast. So far a year has passed and it doesn’t even seem like it. You learn a lot of information within a short amount of time, but it is information that you will carry with you for a lifetime.

Overall, my teachers have been very helpful, very informative, and very knowledge about the subject matter material that we have covered. They have been fair, firm, and consistent about the rules and about their expectations about each individual in the class and also within each individual class.

This program is preparing me mentally, teaching me the basics that I will need once I get into the management field—the in’s and out’s and some of the technical things I didn’t know even though I worked in management before.

LEAP is a positive step toward achievement of your lifetime goals, and it helps you motivate others. I have been able to motive some of my friends to return to school because I have been going to school as a divorced mother with three children. I have been able to show my friends that if I can do it, they can do it too.

All of the teachers always begin and end with prayer. The teachers are very spiritual, and you can tell that they are Christian by the way they talk and their mannerisms. You feel comfortable talking with them.

Nancy Turner
1st Semester Psychology Student:

I think it is a great program. It is intensified, but it is a good program for an individual who has a day job and life. The instructors are friendly and very informative, very assertive. They are ready to be there to work with you. You can call them and they will answer you and explain things over and over if need be just to help you understand. To know that you can finish in a year and a half is awesome!
